Infrared Sauna: Hot Or Not?

We’re constantly looking for ways to improve our health. It’s a constant process of trial and error on the road to growth and health evolution. We were sitting on the rooftop of a close friend's apartment home last week enjoying the beautiful view and weather. On the roof, there was a full bar, couches and a big screen, dart board, and an infrared sauna. As we were sipping our glass of red wine, our friend, who is also extremely health conscious, recommended that we try out an infrared sauna.

After the seed was planted in our brains that night, we found ourselves checking into our first infrared sauna session about a month later. We went to HotBox Infrared Sauna Studio downtown Los Angeles. First off, infrared light is the invisible part of the sun’s spectrum. This light easily penetrates our skin a few inches reaching our cells in order to deliver energy, relieve pain, and stimulate healing.

The experience was phenomenal. It exceeded our expectations. Upon arrival, you’re warmly greeted by the host who checks you in, supplies water, and takes you to your suite. In the suite, there’s the infrared sauna and a shower. Inside the sauna, there’s a tablet on the wall. You’re able to play music or watch Netflix. The xx Pandora station was playing in ours. There’s a wet towel and a dry towel inside the sauna. The shower is Vitamin C filtered and all the shower essentials are plant based. The have pre-made essential oil towels sitting on the bench outside the sauna.

Before you go into the suite, you pick a color for the light therapy during your session. We chose Optimism for our session. The different lights are supposed to trigger different feelings and vibrations in your brain.

You’re in your suite for 55 minutes. You are in the sauna for a maximum time of 45 minutes. The difference between an infrared sauna and a normal sauna is that the light in the infrared penetrates your body inches deep instead of just heating the surface. The infrared reaches your body on a cellular level. Instead of heating the temperature of the air all around you, the infrared keeps the temperature inside the sauna much cooler than a normal sauna and just gets straight into your body.

We began profusely sweating within 10-15 minutes of the session. It was more than we sweat in any of our workouts. You can feel your body detoxing. The next thing we noticed is how relaxed your body feels. We both were sore from workouts and the infrared sauna substantially helped us feel recovered. When we got out, the amount of energy we had was one of the biggest pros! Our skin looked and felt amazing.

The infrared sauna we went to was a mix of far, mid and near infrared. The health benefits associated with this mix is: detoxification, lowered blood pressure, relaxation, improved circulation, weight loss, pain relief, cell health, immunity, would healing, anti-aging, and oxygenation of tissues. Make sure you hydrate before and after the session. Water and electrolytes are important!
